Empowering Rural Communities
Toyota Mobility Foundation and its partners have collaborated to form the Kisii Smart Community (KSC). KSC was established to improve rural livelihoods by piloting innovative and sustainable technologies and business models in and around Kisii County, Kenya. KSC aims to support Kenyan sustainable development by improving rural livelihoods and access to goods and services through improved mobility, connectivity and access to clean energy.
The Kisii Smart Community has established a renewable electricity mobility platform to further rural development by utilizing (1) off-grid power generation, (2) information, communication and digital technologies and (3) solar charged electric vehicles.
We are dedicated to addressing the challenges of unsustainable urbanization and the growth of informal settlements by focusing on the needs of rural Africans.
Our mission is to provide sustainable solutions that ensure better access to essential services and opportunities for economic growth. By developing a comprehensive platform for sustainable rural development. We aim to create a model that can be replicated across Africa, promoting prosperity and gender parity.

First Mile / Last Mile Logistics For Small Scale Farmers
KSC leverages off-grid powered e-mobility to enable sustainable agri-value chain support. Our purpose designed electric vehicles, recyclable batteries and distributed charging infrastructure are here to stay.
Digital Platforms To Improve Access to Rural Transport
Our on demand transport platform support drivers and passengers to overcome the barriers to rural mobility. Affordable (USSD) and scalable (cloud-based) this platform addresses all the population.
Capacity Building for Farmers, Mechanics and Drivers
Kisii Smart Community is a platform that bundles proven interventions to holistically support rural farmers, the largest source of livelihoods for Sub Saharan Africans.
